Writing a book

Start a book, add pages and words, draw the pictures and the cover, translate it and add narration.

Writing a book

Start a book

  1. Sign in at books.devghouse.com and click Write a book.
  2. Give it a title, pick the kind of book and the page shape, choose the language you write in and the languages it should also be read in.
  3. Click Start the book. The editor opens with a cover and a back overview already in place.

Pages and words

Click Add the first page, then Add words and type what the page says. Each page has a kind: picture left and words right, a whole-page picture with its words in a band, words only, a title page or a chapter opener. Move earlier, Move later and Delete page rearrange the book. The cover and the back overview always stay first and last.

Click Save when you're done. If the book was changed somewhere else in the meantime, Books tells you to reload instead of overwriting the newer version.

Pictures and the cover

Describe what a page's picture shows and click Draw this picture. Under Cover and back you do the same for the front cover and write the back overview. Each picture is charged in credits only when it lands.

Languages and narration

Under Languages, translate the whole book into another language with one click. You can also write or fix a translation by hand on the page itself: switch the flag above the words. A text you change by hand is kept when the book is translated again.

Under Narration, pick a voice for a language and have the book read aloud. Narration is charged per 1,000 characters read.
